Badaling was my first encounter with the Great Wall of China. Standing there, walking along stones that have witnessed centuries of history, it is impossible not to feel the scale of human ambition and perseverance. These photographs capture moments from that visit; fragments of the wall, the mountains surrounding it, and the feeling of standing on one of the most remarkable structures ever built.
